Description: An easy way of transcribing folk and traditional music
ABC2MTeX is a package written to typeset tunes stored in an ascii
format or abc notation. It was designed primarily for folk and
traditional tunes of Western European origin (such as Irish, English
and Scottish) which can be written on one stave in standard classical
notation. However, it can act as a fast preprocessor for multi-stave
music and should be extendible to many other types of music.
 .
The package is small, easy to use and features, amongst other things,
the ability to transpose both the music and the abc notation. It
will also create an index of all the tunes you have transcribed.
 .
The ability to write tunes in abc notation means that they can be
easily and portably stored or transported electronically. This
package allows you to typeset them easily too. In addition the
notation is not specifically tied to MusicTeX and similar packages
have been written to translate to other formats such as postscript
 and MIDI.
 .
(Note: MusicTeX is not packaged for Debian because MusicTeX is old.
Please the new-and-better MusiXTeX package instead. :)

Description: A single-player, text-based, dungeon simulation
Angband is a single-player, text-based, dungeon simulation derived
from the game Moria, which was in turn based on Rogue. It is
often described as a "roguelike" game because the look and feel of
the game is still quite similar to Rogue.
 .
Angband features many enhancements over Moria: unique foes, artifacts,
monster pits and vaults to name a few. Many of these new creatures
and objects are drawn from the writings of J.R.R Tolkien, although
some of the monsters come straight from classical mythology, Dungeons
& Dragons, Rolemaster, or the minds of the orginal Angband coders.
 .
The ultimate goal of the game is to develop a character strong enough
to defeat Morgoth, who resides on dungeon level 100. Upon doing so,
you will receive the exalted status of "winner" and your character may
 retire.
 .
Angband is a reference to Morgoth's "prison of iron."
 .
Morgoth was 'the Dark Enemy of Middle-Earth' during its First Age. He
was banished by the Valar (offspring of Eru, "god" of J.R.R.
Tolkien's world) at the end of the First Age and thus never appears
in The Lord of the Rings, set during the Third Age. Sauron, who does
figure into those tales, was the most powerful of his servants. Read
Tolkien's 'The Silmarillion' for more on the legends of Middle-Earth.

MD5sum: 8c56b44b9b31791ea9f4c6ad7788e9bd
Description: a Java GUI application programming framework
BISS-AWT is a java framework of about 150 Java classes for building
graphical applications with state-of-the-art user interfaces. Instead
of following the native lib based, "OS-native" look-and-feel (like
Suns java.awt), it is implemented purely in Jave and has its own
 "Java-native" look-and-feel.
 .
The framework can be extended without native library support (i.e. you
can write your specialized versions of TextAreas, Checkboxes, Lists
etc. without being forced to write your own, non-portable, native
 libraries).
 .
It already has nice things like text editors, pop-up menus, notebooks,
hierarchical Lists etc. without the need for a JDK 1.1 compliant
native lib. The cross platform compatibility has been tested on a
variety of different operating systems (Linux, BSD, NextStep, OS/2,
 Windows 95, ..).
 .
Besides being useful as an add-on library for all standard Java AWT
implementations, it can be used to build an own, stand-alone AWT that
requires just minimal native library support. This distribution comes
with a native layer for the kaffe-0.8.1 virtual machine.
 .
As a proof-of-concept, there are also some tools included which form a
Java specific IDE (integrated development environment, ClassBrowser
etc.). These tools already can be used to do serious Java programming
(BISS-AWT itself has been built with it). There even is a graphical
layout generator which considerably eases the effort required to
 design complex dialogs).
 .
The BISS-AWT comes with full sources (both Java and for the optional
native library) and is distributed under a GPL-like license (please
see file LICENSE.BISS_AWT for details). It is a vivid project which
will be constantly improved (with respect to both the GUI and the IDE
 components).

Size: 53220
MD5sum: eeaa68e7a7486de1738d3ba9539770cf
Description: aliases-style mail forwarding for qmail (source)
This is a source only package for building fastforward binary
package from source, because Dan Bernstein (fastforward's author)
only gives permission for fastforward to be distributed in source form.
 .
fastforward handles qmail forwarding according to a cdb database. It can
create forwarding databases from a sendmail-style /etc/aliases or from
 user-oriented virtual-domain tables.
 .
fastforward supports external mailing lists, stored in a binary format
for fast access. It has a tool to convert sendmail-style include files
 into binary lists.
 .
fastforward is more reliable than sendmail. sendmail can't deal with
 long aliases, or deeply nested aliases, or deeply nested include files;
fastforward has no limits other than memory. sendmail can produce
corrupted alias files if the system crashes; fastforward is crashproof.
 .
fastforward's database-building tools are much faster than sendmail's
newaliases. Even better, fastforward deliveries don't pause while the
 database is being rebuilt.
 .
fastforward does not support insecure sendmail-style program deliveries
from include files; you can use qmail's secure built-in mechanisms
instead. fastforward does support program deliveries from /etc/aliases.

As "Curses" opens, you're hunting about in the attic of your family home,
looking for a tatty old map of Paris (you're going on holiday tomorrow) and
generally trying to avoid all the packing. Aunt Jemima is potting daisies
and sulking; the attics are full of endless distractions and secrets; Greek
myths, horoscopes, sixth-century politics, a less than altogether helpful
demon, a mysterious bomb plot, photography, ritual, poetry and a dream or
two all get in your way; and somehow you keep being reminded of your family
through the ages, and all its Curses...

Description: Jigsaw, An Interactive History by Graham Nelson
New Year's Eve, 1999, a quarter to midnight and where else to be but
Century Park! Fireworks cascade across the sky, your stomach rumbles
uneasily, music and lasers howl across the parkland... Not exactly your
ideal party (especially as that rather attractive stranger in black
has slipped back into the crowds) - but cheer up, you won't live to
 see the next.
 .
"Jigsaw" begins at the very end of the Twentieth Century, but the action
ranges over the past hundred years, covering the most critical historical
moments of the period: from assassinations to world war, from pop music
to the space race. But throughout it all, just WHO is Black?

MD5sum: a02c44115d091784bdc4e57f42faef7c
Description: calculates dimensions for microwave ham radio antennas
This is the HDL_ANT program by Paul Wade, N1BWT. It may be used freely
by licensed amateur radio operators, others must pay a fee to the ARRL
Foundation for use of the program.
 .
HDL_ANT does the calculations needed to successfully implement
several microwave antennas: horns, parabolic dishes, and
metal-plate lenses. It also does the calculations involved in
setting up an antenna range for antenna gain measurement. More
detailed explanations of the antennas and measurements may be
found in the series of QEX articles entitled 'Practical Microwave
Antennas,' in the September, October, and November 1994 issues.
 .
An additional article, 'More on Parabolic Dish Antennas,' in the
December 1995 issue of QEX, gave the descriptions for Offset
dishes, Penny feeds, and the use of sun noise to measure antenna
 performance and receiver noise figure.
 .
These articles are reprinted in the ARRL publication "UHF/Microwave
Projects Manual, Volume 2", ISBN 0-87259-631-1. Use of the program
 without the articles is problematic.
 .
All dimensions are in millimeters, since one mm. is about the
accuracy required for antennas to work well at 10 GHz. However,
there is an option for dimensions in inches, for the metric-impaired.

 Tools are included that implement arithmetic and logical operations;
 magnify, crop and subsample; implement edge detection (e.g. Canny);
allow custom space-domain or frequency-domain convolution; include
 high-pass, low-pass, band-pass, rank-value, difference-of-Gaussians
and Gabor filtering; generate test images and implement differential
or vector operations e.g. gradient, derivatives, Laplacian. There are
also a variety of miscellaneous tools e.g. thresholding, zero-crossing
detection, and calculation of image statistics.

 (sampler1_R55.z3, sampler2.z3, & minizork.z3) are available by anonymous
FTP from ftp.gmd.de under the /if-archive/infocom/demos directory.
There are also many downloadable games written independently of Infocom
in /if-archive/games/zcode on the same server. Put them in the local
 directory /usr/lib/games/infocom.
 .
Two executables are included in this package: one that runs under

Description: Convert JPEG compressed images to PostScript Level 2
jpeg2ps converts JPEG files to PostScript Level 2 or 3 EPS. In fact, jpeg2ps
is not really a converter but a "wrapper": it reads the image parameters
(width, height, number of color components) in a JPEG file, writes the
according EPS header and then copies the compressed JPEG data to the output
file. Decompression is done by the PostScript interpreter (only PostScript
Level 2 and 3 interpreters support JPEG compression and decompression).
If you have a slow communication channel and a fast printer, sending
compressed image data is a big win.

Description: So Far, An Interactive Catharsis by Andrew Plotkin
Dissatisfied in a world not unlike our own, but not entirely similar,
you slip into another reality: a collection of allegorical worlds,
full of haunting images, strange noises and atmospheric landscapes.
 .
Andrew Plotkin, the author of So Far, writes:
 .
"This is a shortish-to-medium-sized game. More than a short story,
less than a full-length novel. Its rating is `cruel.' It is possible
to make mistakes which will prevent you from winning. Sometimes common
 sense will serve to avoid such mistakes; sometimes insight is necessary;
sometimes neither will help. Save often, and keep your old saved games.
 .
"Do not expect `So Far' to be anything like `A Change in the Weather'.
 It's not."
 .
 You'll need a Z-code (i.e. Infocom-format) game interpreter, such as
XZip or Frotz, to run this game.

Description: Scanning threaded USENET news reader, based on trn and rn
The *rn family of newsreaders are the most widely-used on USENET --
even to the point of being a de-facto standard. They have a powerful
full screen text mode user interface, where most actions are available
at the press of a single key, and are highly configurable.
 .
This is a temporary package of the latest of the line, strn. There is
a version of trn in beta test which subsumes strn's features, so this
package will disappear when that version of trn is packaged.
 .
This version of strn reads news from a news server via NNTP (the Network
News Transfer Protocol). You must have a news server available --
large sites, including most ISPs, usually provide a site-wide server.
 .
If you install a news server on your system (either containing just
local newsgroups or with a partial or full USENET feed) you can configure
 strn to access it.
 .
This version of strn is MIME-enabled, but to have strn extract and
process the body of a MIME message appropriately, you'll need the mh
package installed. If you don't, strn will only be able to display MIME
articles as plain ASCII text. Please read /usr/doc/strn/README.Debian
 for more details.

Description: Source only package for building ucspi-tcp binary package
Written by Dan J. Bernstein, tcpclient and tcpserver are
powerful easy-to-use command-line tools for building TCP
client-server applications. tcpserver provides TCP access control
features, similar to tcp-wrappers/tcpd's hosts.allow but much
faster; it can run high-availability services much better than
 inetd.
 .
Real-time Blocking List support is also included in tcpserver, so
you can run qmail-smtpd with it and avoid a lot of SPAM.
 .
tcpclient and tcpserver conform to UCSPI, the UNIX Client-Server
Program Interface, using the TCP protocol.
 .
Dan Bernstein (ucspi-tcp's author) only gives permission for his code
to be distributed in source form, or binary by approval. This package
has been put together to allow people to easily build a binary
 package for themselves, from source.
 .
If there is a package called ucspi-tcp available, then Dan has approved the
binary version of the package for distribution, so you might as well install
that and save yourself some effort.
